Overview
In this online course, you will be introduced to a range of team practices and methods for designing socially responsible AI. Most people are very interested in behaving fairly, responsibly, and equitably. However, they often do not know exactly what they can do to create socially responsible, fair, transparent, and gender-equitable AI.
So how can we proceed to design artificial intelligence in a way that reflects these values? There are a variety of approaches and methods that can help teams and working groups in particular to develop inclusive, fair, and gender-equitable AI systems. These team methods or team practices are based on scientific theories and concepts from various fields and are already being used on a daily basis by managers and team leaders in many organizations and companies.
In this course, you will get to know some of these team practices through examples and small practical exercises. You will acquire a personal toolkit that will help you to act in a socially responsible, inclusive, and fair manner when designing team processes in the context of AI development.
What can I expect to learn?
- Round Robin – the team practice of speaking in turn
- Balanced distribution of tasks – overcoming (gender) stereotypes in the distribution of tasks within teams
- Team Manifesto – guidelines and needs assessment for team collaboration
- Review Meeting – implementation of a structured approach in team meetings
What will I achieve?
Upon completion of the course, you will be able to
- identify the scientific background of various team practices that result in socially responsible AI design.
- identify suitable situations in everyday business life that can be optimized through small changes.
- bring about these changes by implementing various practices within the team
What requirements do I need to meet?
No specific requirements necessary. The courses "Designing Socially Responsible AI" and " Methods of Bias-Reduction for Socially Responsible AI Design" are optional.
Who is offering the course?
Prof. Dr. Nicola Marsden and her team at the Lab for Social Informatics are working on national and international research projects to develop and implement participatory and user-centered methods for designing AI and ensuring equitable digitalization.
She is involved in various roles promoting diversity in STEM fields, e.g., as deputy chair of the Competence Center for Technology, Diversity, and Equal Opportunities (kompetenzz e.V.), and as an expert for the German UNESCO Commission on the topic of "AI as an opportunity for greater gender equality."
