Overview
In this online course, you will be introduced to a range of team practices and methods for socially responsible AI design. Most people have a strong interest in behaving fairly, responsibly and justly, but they often do not know exactly what they can do to shape socially responsible, fair, transparent and gender-equitable AI.
So how can we ensure that artificial intelligence is designed in line with these values? There are a wide variety of approaches and methods that can particularly support teams and working groups in developing inclusive, fair and gender-equitable AI systems. These team methods or team practices are based on scientific theories and concepts from various fields, and are already being used daily by managers and team leads in many companies and businesses.
In this course, you will become familiar with some of these team practices through examples and small exercises. In this way, you will acquire a personal toolkit that will help you in your everyday life to act in a socially responsible, inclusive and fair manner when shaping team processes in the context of AI development.
What content can I expect?
- Round Robin – the team practice of taking turns to speak
- Balanced distribution of tasks – overcoming (gender) stereotypes in the allocation of tasks within teams
- Team manifesto – guidelines and identifying needs for team collaboration
- Review meeting – implementing a structured approach in team meetings
What will I achieve?
Upon completion of the course, you will be able to
- name the scientific backgrounds of various team practices, which result in socially responsible AI design.
- identify appropriate situations in everyday corporate life that can be optimised through minor changes.
- bring about these changes by implementing different practices in the team.
What prerequisites do I need?
No specific prerequisites are required. The course “Socially Responsible AI Design” is optional.
Who is offering this course?
Prof. Dr Nicola Marsden works together with her team in the Socioinformatics Lab on national and international research projects focusing on the development and implementation of participatory and user-centred methods for shaping AI and ensuring fair opportunities in digitalisation.
She is committed to diversity in STEM fields in various roles, for example as deputy chairwoman of the Competence Centre Technology – Diversity – Equal Opportunities or as an expert for the German UNESCO Commission on the topic of “AI as an opportunity for greater gender equality”.
