AI Campus Hub NRW
The FernUniversität in Hagen, in cooperation with the AI Campus, is responsible for a regional hub for North Rhine-Westphalia, serving as a central point of contact and networking centre on the subject of artificial intelligence and the reuse of the AI Campus’s educational resources at universities. The AI Campus Hub NRW strengthens North Rhine-Westphalia’s position as a centre for higher education and technology through digital learning programmes and community activities. It works closely with the KI:Expertisezentrum.nrw and, amongst other things, provides advisory services as part of the BMFTR project ‘Strengthening AI Competences at Universities’.
North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous state, is home to a dense network of universities, educational institutions, businesses, and medical organisations. Our goal is to bring these diverse stakeholders together - each with their own interests and questions about AI – to foster exchange and collaboration. In this process, we identify training and continuing education needs and explore how the AI Campus’s learning opportunities can support them.

Romy Wessing is a research associate in the subject area of educational theory and media pedagogy at FernUniversität in Hagen. At the AI Campus Hub NRW, she develops AI Campus learning opportunities and supports universities in NRW in the sustainable integration of target group-oriented AI Campus learning formats. Claudia de Witt is Professor of Educational Theory and Media Education and Vice-Rector for Teaching, Student Studies and AI in Educational Processes at the FernUniversität in Hagen. Her research and teaching focus on education and digitalisation, artificial intelligence in higher education, and the design of innovative digital teaching and learning processes in various educational contexts. She is responsible for the BMFTR project ‘Strengthening AI Competences at Higher Education Institutions’ at the FernUniversität; the focus of which is on strengthening AI skills at higher education institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia through the individual curation of AI Campus learning content and formats, on providing didactic and technical advice in accordance with ethical principles, on the design and implementation of community formats for AI skills in higher education, and on hosting the AI Campus Moodle instances. She also chairs the AI Steering Group at the FernUniversität.
